If the dog does not see the leadership it needs, it tends to assume the role of pack leader and this can be quite dangerous as the dog does what it thinks is right. This could be the cause of a lot of behavior problems, thus it is advisable that there should be a lot of focus on the leadership.
Exercise is also important for the dog as it satisfies the dog’s natural migrating instinct. Lack of sufficient exercise causes numerous behavior problems, among them chewing on items, separation anxiety and excessive barking. This dog is generally friendly to other dogs and non canine pets and strangers too.
Among the problems that the English Cocker Spaniel has include respiratory problems, Heart disease, eye problems, ear infections as well as slipped stifle. Wheezing is also common in this breed and this is attributed to the short face that the dog has. Wheezing is common during hot weather.
